Pan-African pay TV platform StarTimes is to boost its Filipino programming after agreeing a volume deal with content provider ABS-CBN in the Philippines.

ABS-CBN is keen to grow its presence in Africa and meet growing demand for Filipino content in the region.

“Filipino stories are full of youthful romance, pure love and also dramatic plots. They show how the young Asian people struggle with lives and how to love,” said Pang Xinxing, chairman of StarTimes.

Prior to the partnership, StarTimes aired numerous Filipino drama series, including On The Wings of Love, Bridges of Love and My Eternal.

ABS-CBN supplies programming into more than 50 territories around the world and has sold over 30,000 hours of content.

StarTimes is among the leading cable platforms in sub-Saharan Africa, making more than 80 channels available to a total of at least 10 million subscribers in 30 countries, including Nigeria.
